FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS

 

Hear now . . . the . . . laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live. (Deuteronomy 4:1–2)

 

You are following directions from MapQuest and approach the fork in the road where you are to turn right. You notice that it's bumpy, but the road to the left has just been paved. You ask yourself, can I go a short distance down the road to the left and then find my way back and miss all the highway mess? The state road we follow will not bring life or death, but it will determine whether or not we reach our proper destination.

 On our highway of life, most of us know the right road. It is often bumpy and filled with construction. Our logic can tell us it makes sense to go down the wrong road for a short distance and then get back on the right road. We reason we won't be gone long and it will be easier.

God gave the roadmap. We can stay on the roads He highlighted and find the way to Him, or we may choose to go down the side roads. I've never talked to anyone who found the side roads beneficial. In fact many have said those roads almost cost them everything they value: their life, marriage, home, and happiness. Follow the right road that leads to life, even if it's bumpy.
