Love That Satisfies

by 복음과삶 2009. 6. 23.
1 John 2:15-17

If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)

AS BEINGS CREATED in the image of God, we were made for love. Woven into the fabric of our souls is the desire to love and be loved. Living without love is akin to death, but experiencing the reality of the Father's love is the abundant living that Jesus promised His followers. Our hearts were created to continually receive and pour out the unconditional love of the Father. Why, then, are so many of us bereft of this divine flow of love so that we live empty lives rather than lives of fullness? It could be that we are attempting to draw from the wrong source. In our heart's perpetual search for love, we allow it to be captured by the first thing that comes across our path. We are told in Scripture to not love the world. This is not referring to the physical world, but the sinful system of the world. When our hearts are captured by this world, the love of the Father is not in us not because He doesn't love us, but because we have chosen to draw from another source, one that cannot truly satisfy. If we could but realize that when we say no to sin we say yes to the deeper, more satisfying love of the Father, our hearts would find true contentment.
