KINDNESS

by 복음과삶 2006. 3. 9.

A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor,

but a man of understanding holds his tongue.

—Proverbs 11:12

KINDNESS

Have you ever been around a sarcastic person? Do you tend to be one? Someone once said that sarcasm is jealousy in bold disguise. I believe it. The times that I have allowed myself to be sarcastic have been the times that, deep in my heart, I was jealous of something about another person.  When we are jealous of someone, we try to tear that person down to make him or her look bad in some way.

God’s Holy Bible has much to say about the way we treat others. To the jealous person, God says, “Do not covet” (Ex. 20:17). Being envious divides people from each other. It makes us suspicious and negative.  God, on the other hand, is interested in uniting people.  He looks for people who want to show the best side of humanity, not the worst.  So be careful of your sarcasm. It may mean that there is jealousy lurking just under the surface of your heart. Take it to God and let Him soften your attitude. He’s good at that.

Live It!

If you have a tendency to speak negatively about a particular person, ask God to help you stop it. Try to find something nice to say about that person.
