Failure is not final

 

오늘의 묵상 (요일1:6~9)

 

 

6. 그렇기 때문에 만약 우리가 하나님과 사귀고 있다고 말하면서 여전히 어두움 가운데 살고 있다면, 우리는 거짓말쟁이며 진리를 따라 살고 있지 않는 것입니다.

 

7. 하나님께서 빛 가운데 계시기에 우리 역시 빛 가운데서 살아야 합니다. 우리가 빛 가운데 살게 되면 서로 교제하게 됩니다. 또한 하나님의 아들이신 예수 그리스도의 피가 우리의 모든 죄를 깨끗이 씻어 주실 것입니다.

 

8. 또한 우리가 스스로 죄를 짓지 않았다고 말한다면, 그것은 우리 자신을 속이는 것이며 진리가 우리 안에 없는 것입니다.

 

9. 그러나 우리가 죄를 고백하면, 그분은 우리를 용서해 주실 것입니다. 그분은 옳은 일만 행하시는 분이기 때문에 우리는 그분을 믿을 수 있습니다. 그분은 우리의 모든 잘못을 깨끗하게 해 주실 것입니다.

 

 

 

 

 

FAILURE IS NOT FINAL

 

 

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins. (1 John 1:9)

 

I had a paddle broken over my backside once. Actually, I had several. But the one I really remember was a big, wooden behemoth with holes in the middle so not even the wind could hinder my impending doom. But while being quite memorable, it wasn't the worst. No, that title belongs to the night I made my parents cry. Their silence that followed only further magnified their disappointment. I felt like a failure.

 

Failure can be devastating. Its sting can cause paralysis more tragic than any serpent because it attacks your very spirit. Failure crushes our will and can lead to depression, apathy, and total ineffectiveness. But failure does not have to be final. This is the thought that we will unpack over this next week. Today, we are going to start by looking at a very familiar verse.

 

I believe 1 John 1:9 is commonly used out of context. It is a beautiful verse of redemption, but it is not a verse to use for evangelism. See, 1 John is written to believers! (See 5:13.) Do we understand the implications of this? Hope is found in this verse. God is saying, in a sense, “Even though you're My child, you will fail. Seek My forgiveness and be restored!”
