Scripture Text: "For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth." Psalms 119:89-90 (KJV)
I was reading the account in Joshua where The Israelites were about to possess the Land that had been promised to them. They had, at the Leadership of Joshua, just conquered the kingdoms of Jericho and Ai; and had stirred up that entire region now in fear as to who this mighty Army of Israelites (Army of the Lord God Almighty) would attack next.
If you read there in the Joshua Chapter 9, you will see that there were certain men of the Gibeonites who devised a plan to fool Joshua and hopefully avoid being conquered. The scriptures tell us that several Gibeonite men approached Joshua's camp dressed in ragged old clothes, packing moldy old bread and wines skins that had been torn and bound up to make them look old and well used - shuffling along with old tattered sandals on their feet. They went in and told Joshua they were envoys from a "distant land" and had heard of the conquests of Israel at the hand of their God, and they asked Joshua and all of Israel to enter into a covenant with them.
For those of you who have studied your Bible History you will know that any covenant entered into in those days was a "blood" covenant and was binding - so when Joshua came upon the hosts at Gibeon, these men came forth and reminded Joshua of the Covenant that he had made with them. When the Israelites learned of the deception of the Gibeonites, they wanted to destroy them - even though they had made a covenant with them. But the covenant was absolutely binding and was made before God. It had to be honored, even though they had been tricked - and Joshua saw to it that the Gibeonites were spared. (v. 19)
We could say a great deal more about this story in light of our own personal lives today - but the I couldn't help but think how prophetic this story was as we look at the faithfulness of God (in Christ). So many who call themselves Christians today, live deceitful and cunning lives - thinking that they can fool God. Even so, He has struck a Covenant with the WHOSOEVER WILL, and friend that has settled your and my fate in Heaven forever... and He (God) will honor it because He said He would. Is it any wonder that David would say,
"For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth."
Psa 119:89- 90 (KJV)
Friend, God has already settled your past, present and your future if you are "living" in Christ. If you are "living" in Christ, you can trust His promise to forgive and forget, and you can today begin living in the Joy of the Lord - knowing that what He said He will do, He will do!
Don't fritter away your life wondering about what tomorrow holds! Live for Jesus today, and know that all of your tomorrows are forever in His Hands.
Father, Your precious Word is a Lamp unto my feet and a Light unto my pathway. I will everyday... hide Thy Word in my heart that I might not sin against thee. I ask you today to inscribe your WORD on my Heart and establish it in my mouth Oh Lord, that I may Glorify you in all that I do. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
