ADMIT IT!
If we claim we have not
sinned, we make him out to be a liar. . . (1 John 1:10 NIV).
A woman came to the hotel
where a well-known pastor was to speak and asked if he could help her husband.
The man was weak, sick and depressed. The pastor invited the man to his hotel
room to talk with him. After he listened to the man tell about his physical
ailments, he said, "All right, now tell me all of the mean, dirty, sinful things
you've been doing." At first the man was irate. But when he calmed down he
asked, "How did you know?"
"From what you were telling
me, I perceived that your problem was the load of guilt you are carrying for the
way you've been living," the pastor replied.
Then the man poured out his awful tale. While maintaining an image of respectability, even church membership, he was living a low-down life of sin.
The pastor got the man onto
his knees, praying and confessing to God.
When they went to the lobby
to meet his wife, she said, "What did you do to my husband? He even looks
different." The pastor said, "I didn't do anything; Jesus took care of his
guilt."
Guilt does terrible things
to people. Denying our sins will not help us. only when we confess our sins and
find forgiveness will God make us new people.
Life response: I will make sure my guilt is confessed and my conscience clear.
