What's the difference?

by 복음과삶 2005. 11. 28.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Just as Christ was raised from the dead . . . we too may
live a new life (Rom. 6:4 NIV).

Is becoming a Christian simply a matter of turning over a new leaf? Or is there really a difference in your life when you become a Christian?

A young and committed Communist was debating a young and enthusiastic Christian in Hyde Park, London. The Communist boasted of his ideology with its social concerns for the poor and downtrodden, and what he would accomplish through the redistribution of wealth. He pointed to a derelict lounging listlessly on a park bench nearby and said with pride, "Communism will put a new suit on that man."

The Christian responded, "That may be, but Christ will put a new man in the suit."

It isn't enough to improve the educational level, or the social standing, or even the financial position of an individual. There must be a basic change in his moral character. Jesus did not come to earth to live among men, to suffer and die, so that we could enjoy a higher standard of living. He came that we might rise to walk on a new plane of life altogether.

Life response: I will seek to live a "resurrected life," not just a "reformed life."
