A DILIGENT WORKER: A GOOD
WITNESS
The soul of the diligent shall be
made fat
(Prov. 13:4 KJV).
A man once asked me to pray
for him because he had lost his job. Since he was a member of my church, I also
attempted to intercede for him. Then I found out a few things that put the
situation in a different light.
He often reported late to
work. His excuse was that he needed to have family prayer in the
morning.
He was often late with his
deliveries. His excuse was that many times during the day he felt the need to
pull over to the side of the road and read his Bible.
He interfered with other
workers and their jobs. His defense was that he felt an obligation to witness to
the men and try to lead them to Christ.
He would have been a far
better witness for Christ if he had been a more diligent, honest, industrious
worker — doing his Bible reading, praying and witnessing on his own time rather
than on company time. After hearing all of the complaints against the man, I
wondered why his employer hadn't fired him sooner.
Christianity at work
demands integrity, faithfulness, punctuality and doing a good
job.
Life response: "Lord, help me to be witness for You in my diligent work habits."
