Keep at it

by 복음과삶 2006. 3. 24.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God,

you will receive what he has promised (Hebrews 10:36).

KEEP AT IT

IT’S NOT ALWAYS EASY to carry out the will of God. Helen and her husband, both college graduates, believed God wanted them to become missionaries. They did all the necessary paperwork and then waited. Two children were born during that time, and the United States entered World War II.

In the middle of the war, they received an offer to work in Barbados. With their toddler and new baby, they had to travel by overnight train to Florida. Because of the war, all trains carried mostly soldiers. Helen and her baby were separated from her husband and little girl—their assigned seats were in separate cars.

As Helen sat down, the only other woman on the train walked past her, then came back to talk. They found out that this lady’s adopted children had been born in Helen’s hometown, located hundreds of miles away. When the woman discovered Helen’s plight, she insisted that she and her family take her place on the train. As if the Lord was making clear His hand in these circumstances, they discovered the lady had a rarity—the only first class accommodations on the train.

Though the task looked daunting, God proved He was able to care for them. Helen later claimed that the safest place to be is in the middle of doing what you know God wants.
