THE EYE OF THE STORM
Fear not . . . When you pass through
the waters, I will be with you
(Isa. 43:1b-2a NIV).
I remember seeing a
satellite picture of a hurricane on the evening news. Weather tracking stations
use such pictures to determine the intensity of a storm and to chart its course.
I was particularly interested in the center of the storm, the eye of the
hurricane. At the outer edges of the storm were the strong winds and heavy rains
that cause extensive damage.
Yet in the center there was
an almost perfect calm. The sky was clear and only a gentle breeze was blowing.
Those in the "eye" of the storm may have been unaware of the violence not far
away.
Sometimes life is like
that. The storms rage all around us, but at the center of life there can be an
inner peace. Yes, Christians go through storms just like anyone else, but the
secret is to find that place of inner peace.
How is that done? By taking
time to get quiet each day before God, by listening to what He says to us
through His Word and His servants. Learn to wait upon the Lord, to slow down, to
get free from the pressures and stress. Cultivate the carefree attitude of
children who know their parents are taking care of
everything.
Those who wait upon the
Lord will renew their strength and live in the eye of the
storm!
Life response: I will trust the Lord to protect me in the storms of my life.
