AN IMPROVED
SOCIETY?
The world and its desires pass away,
but the man who does the will of God
lives forever (1 John 2:17
NIV).
The dreams and
fantasies of science fiction writers decades ago have become scientific
realities. There are people alive today who witnessed the first automobiles to
scare horses along deeply rutted dirt roads. They might have seen the first
adventurous mail plane pilots circle a barn on which someone had painted a large
arrow pointing north so the pilots could regain their bearings. Later, they
attentively listened as news reports broadcast the first attempts of man to
enter space, and sat glued to the TV screen as man walked on the moon for the
first time.
In one
lifetime, we have transformed the lifestyle of our nation. But something is
terribly wrong. Medical advances and technological inventions have not changed
the basic sinful nature of human beings. Civilization, education, wealth and
legislation have not, and cannot, make any nation a utopia.
Science can
deal only with things of this world, which are passing away. Society is
transformed only when individuals are changed from the inside out. People are
going to live (or die) forever. What a difference it would make if the efforts
spent on improving our lot in life were spent on doing the will of
God.
Life response: I will concentrate more on doing God’s will than on making temporal gains.
