A TRANSFORMATION
. . . be transformed by
the renewing of your mind . . . (Rom. 12:2
NIV).
One of the
nice things about being a grandparent is having a good reason to play with toys.
I grew up in the good ’ol days of Lionel trains, Erector sets, wind-up cars and
homemade rubber-band guns. It is almost overwhelming to see the toys children
have today — battery-powered, remote controlled objects, as complicated as the
computer technology that devised them.
While visiting
a home, I was being entertained by a young boy with an intriguing toy. I believe
he called it a ‘transformer." It looked like some sort of futuristic all-terrain
vehicle for use by the military. But then the boy began to twist and turn some
of its parts. Suddenly the vehicle was gone and a mechanical robot had taken its
place. I had to study the robot carefully to find even a resemblance to the
vehicle I had seen earlier. It had literally been transformed before my
eyes.
When God
transforms people, He does more than shift parts and pieces around to make a
different looking creature. He begins with our minds and hearts, renewing us
from the inside out. Then He can use us as He sees best — sometimes in
surprising ways!
Life response: Has the mind of Christ replaced the "mind" of the world in my life?
