The summons

by 복음과삶 2007. 7. 16.

THE SUMMONS

God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth. (Psalm 50:1)

The card that came in the mail stated I was being summoned for jury duty and that I must appear. So appear I did. I served on a jury and heard a case involving two men who were accused of several crimes. Of all the charges against the men, my jury ended up convicting only one man of one charge. For the other defendant, we ended in a hung jury. We simply could not come to a unanimous conclusion as to what had happened and whether or not the man had any criminal intent.

But a day is coming when there will be no uncertainty at all, and a summons is coming that all must answer. In the jury trial, there was little the judge could do before the jury returned its verdict. But God needs no jury to determine guilt or innocence.

Many people complain that God allows evil to continue. But one day no one will be able to say that. one day we will all see what He thinks of the evil in the world. Right now there may be many horrible things happening, but one day God will speak and summon the earth, and the earth will answer.

Praise God for being the righteous Judge who does not tolerate evil.
