Grace and good works

 

오늘의 묵상 (엡2:4~9)

 

 

4. 그러나 하나님은 자비로우시고 우리를 너무나 사랑하셔서, 그냥 내 버려 두지 않으셨습니다.

 

5. 하나님의 뜻을 따르지 않아 영적으로 죽은 우리들에게, 그리스도를 통하여 새 생명을 주신 것입니다. 여러분은 하나님의 은혜로 구원을 받았습니다.

 

6. 하나님은 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리시고, 하늘 위에 있는 그분의 보좌 곁에 우리를 그리스도와 함께 앉혀 주셨습니다.

 

7. 또한 앞으로 오는 모든 세대에게 하나님의 은혜가 얼마나 크고 놀라운지를 보여 주시려고, 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 우리 모두에게 그의 자비를 나타내셨습니다.

 

8. 여러분은 하나님의 은혜 안에서 믿음으로 구원을 받았습니다. 여러분 스스로는 자신을 구원할 수 없습니다. 구원은 하나님의 선물입니다.

 

9. 또한 착한 행동으로 구원받은 것이 아니므로 아무도 자랑할 수 없습니다.

 

 

 

 

 

GRACE AND GOOD WORKS

 

 

By grace you have been saved, . . . not by works, so that no one can boast. (Eph. 2:8–9)

 

PARENTS ALONE ARE responsible for bringing a child into the world. The child had nothing to do with creating his or her physical life. Physical characteristics such as eye or hair color were determined by the genes of the parents rather than by the choice of the child.

 

In the same way, only God can impart spiritual life to an individual. It is equally impossible to attain salvation through good works as it is for a child to enter the world without parents. Jesus paid a dear price to purchase salvation. Would God have allowed His Son to die on the cruel cross if there had been another way?

 

Salvation is free to anyone who chooses to accept Jesus as Savior. Some people, though, think that since Jesus paid it all, they have no further responsibility to carry out biblical directives. “It's not what I do, it's what Jesus did for me,” they say. True but . . .

 

Just as children inherit the physical characteristics of their parents, those who are truly saved by grace begin to exemplify characteristics of God. God desires to spread love to the world through those who have been born again. Acting on compassion for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of others will bring grace and good works together.
