SOW SEEDS OF
FORGIVENESS
Be kind . . . to one another,
forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you
(Eph. 4:32
NIV).
World-famous engineer Peer
Holm later came to failure and returned to the village of his childhood with his
wife and little girl. His neighbor owned a fierce dog but was contemptuous of
those who warned him that the dog was dangerous. one day, the dog killed Peer
Holm's little daughter.
The sheriff shot the dog,
but all the neighbors remained bitter against the owner. When spring came, no
one would sell the man any seed for his fields. But Peer Holm, troubled by his
neighbor’s predicament, could not sleep at night.
On one of those sleepless
nights, he finally arose and went to his shed. Taking his last half-bushel of
barley, he climbed the fence and sowed the barley seed in his neighbor’s field.
When the seed germinated, it was obvious what Peer had done. His neighbor's
field was green, while part of his own remained bare.
Peer sowed seeds of
kindness and forgiveness as well as seeds of barley.
Are there some seeds you
need to sow? Can we afford to harbor unforgiveness in our hearts when we know
that God's forgiveness is prevented by such thoughts? Nothing is worth the
unutterable loss of God's forgiveness!
We hurt ourselves most when
we do not forgive.
Life response: By my thoughts and actions, I will sow seeds of forgiveness.
