"HELP ME, GOD!"
God be merciful to me a sinner (Luke
18:13 KJV).
A story in a religious
magazine dramatically illustrates God’s miracle power. It tells how a
forty-year-old man, rough and wicked, came to know God. Profane, mean-spirited,
this man loved to drink and fight. His pastor tried to convert him to no avail.
"God means nothing to me," the man would say. He went from bad to worse, from
liquor to drugs. Finally, he got so low he couldn't handle himself. The pastor
repeated the advice he had given so many times before, "Your only hope is
God."
Beaten and humbled, the man
asked, "How do I contact God?"
"Just talk to Him. Ask for
His help."
The man looked up and said,
"Help me, God. I can't help myself."
That was all, a simple
prayer. But it must have been in real faith because the man was able to testify:
"You told me there is a God. Now I know there is because He heard what I said.
He came right close to me. I felt warm inside, I began to cry. I'm so happy. He
set me free from alcohol and drugs and all that rotten
stuff."
How do you explain a
miracle like that? Certainly it is not the work of religion. only the power of
God, unleashed by faith, can transform a sinner into a child of
God.
We can all pray that
prayer: "Help me, God. I can't help myself."
Life response: I will seek to live a God-sufficient life rather than a self-sufficient one.
