USE YOUR SENSES
He that hath an ear, let him hear .
. . (Rev. 2:7 KJV).
Helen Keller was one of the
most remarkable people this world has ever known. Blind and deaf from infancy,
she was able — through the untiring love and discipline of her teacher, Anne
Sullivan — to learn to understand the world around her. Through smell, touch and
taste, she became aware of the beauty around her that many sighted people never
observe.
"What did you see?" Miss
Keller asked a friend who had just returned from a long walk in the
woods.
Her friend responded, "Oh,
nothing much."
Helen Keller later said, "I
might have been incredulous, had I not been accustomed to such responses, for
long ago, I became convinced that the seeing see very
little."
Helen Keller suggested that
people use their eyes as if they would be blind tomorrow, and their ears as if
they would be deaf tomorrow. Make the most of every sense! Such attention to the
world around us can give us a greater appreciation of our Creator. It can make
us more sensitive to other people and more attentive to their
needs.
We need to use our
God-given abilities while we have them.
Life response: "Lord, help me to use my senses to enjoy your creation."
