STAY LITTLE!
‘When you were little in your own
eyes, were you not head of the tribes of
(1 Sam. 15:17
NKJV).
Like many still do today,
my high school senior class voted on the "best" person in a variety of
categories. one of the votes was for "most likely to succeed" Our choice for
that honor was very deserving. Talented, personable and capable, he had many
characteristics necessary for success. Immediately after graduation, he started
out in his chosen career in a way that reinforced our vote. For him, success was
just around the corner.
In a very few years,
however, his career was over, his home destroyed, his life entangled in sin and
disgrace. one of our mutual friends said, "I don't understand it. He was voted
‘most likely to succeed.’"
I answered, "The most
likely to succeed may be the most likely to fail. He trusted himself instead of
relying upon God."
Like King Saul, too many
people become self-confident and fail to stay "little" in their own eyes. True
success comes to those whose confidence is in God. Don't let your gifts and
talents become a stumbling-block!
Life response: "Lord, help me to understand that my real worth is in my relationship with You."
