YOU ARE SPECIAL

 

YOU ARE SPECIAL

 

What is man that you are mindful of him . . . (Ps. 8:4 NIV).

 

It was the custom when I was a boy to "choose up sides" for a ball game. Some boys would be picked quickly because they had a special gift. one might be a good pitcher, one a reliable hitter, one a fast runner. (I remember a certain boy being chosen because he was the only one with a catcher’s mask and shin guards!) then one by one the rest of us would be selected in descending order of talent.

 

Men tend to choose the talented, the rich, the beautiful, the young, the desirable, or the influential. These are chosen because they are special. But God's doesn’t choose you because you are special. You are special because He has chosen you!

 

You are special to God because you are His creation, because you are an object of His concern. We need to teach children that they are special because God made them that way. He has a purpose in mind for each human being.

 

I have never liked receiving mail addressed "Current Occupant." That certainly is not the way God thinks about you or me. He knows each of us by name and cares about us individually. Jesus tells us the very hairs of our heads are numbered (Luke 12:7).

 

You are unique and God has a plan for you to do something worthwhile with your life.
