GOD'S KIND OF
SUCCESS
‘ Whosoever will be chief among you,
let him be your servant’ (Matt. 20:27 KJV).
"Nothing succeeds like
success." That appears to be true. Human beings are fascinated by success. We
are interested in winners, not losers.
A man ordered lobster in a
restaurant but was disappointed when the lobster presented to him on a platter
didn’t have claws. He asked the waiter, "What happened to those claws he was
supposed to have?"
The waiter said, "I don't
know, maybe he lost them in a fight with another lobster."
The man pushed his plate
away and said, "In that case, take this one back and bring me the one that
won."
Success is the name of the
game today — not only in the world, but in the church. Humility is out.
Self-depreciation is out. Servants' robes are for the timid souls who haven't
learned the techniques of management by intimidation. All that matters now is
that you succeed and feel good about yourself.
But success in God's eyes
is very different. Setting the example, Jesus humbled himself to be a servant,
ministering to others and giving His life as a ransom for many. God's rewards
will not go to those who shine the brightest and make it big by this world's
standards, but to those who faithfully serve, walking with Jesus in obedience
and trust.
Life response: By whose standard of success am I living?
