HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?
He that tilleth his land shall have
plenty . . .
(Proverbs 28:19 KJV)
This prosperous man, whom
Jesus called a fool, was thinking only of himself. Money had snared his soul.
All he wanted was more.
There is a legend of a
miser who had a precious gold piece in a secret hiding place. Every day he took
it out and held it in his hands. He did not invest it, spend it, or use it. His
only delight was in possessing it.
Then one day someone
discovered his hiding place and stole his gold piece. The miser was heartsick. A friend
gave him a stone and said, "Here, use this in place of your gold."
The miser was furious. "But
that is just a stone. What value is a stone compared with my precious
gold?"
His friend said, "You can
do with a stone all that you did with the gold."
Someone has suggested, "The
use of money is all the advantage there is in having it." Some rare individuals
believe that and practice it. one such man told a financial planner, "I have
enough. I don't want to continue to amass more and more money. I want you to
devise a plan whereby I can give away my entire income from this point on."
Ralph Waldo Emerson said,
"Money often costs too much."
Don't let it steal your
soul away!
Life response: I will keep possessions in their proper place . . . second to the things that really matter.
