OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD

 

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good
(Rom. 12:21 NIV).

 

My backyard garden has been a source of pleasure and pride over the years. After the hard work of weeding, I enjoy telling my wife, "I don't believe there is a single weed left in that garden. It is absolutely clean."

 

But I have discovered something. The best garden in the neighborhood is not necessarily the one with the fewest weeds, but the one that is the most fruitful — the one that produces the highest yield.

 

Many people succeed in fighting temptation, resisting the devil and abstaining from certain sins. But what of the necessity of growing in grace and producing the fruit of the Spirit? Don't be overcome by evil but take the offensive. Take the initiative. Overcome evil with good.

 

One woman distributed booklets on prayer in each room of the local hotel. She wrote a personal message in the booklets and included her name and address. One day, a woman called her from another state. She told how, while passing through the city, she had checked into one of those hotel rooms with the intention of committing suicide. Instead she found the booklet, read it and turned her life over to Jesus.

 

Positive good can overcome evil!
