ALMOST!
'Almost thou persuadest me to be a
Christian'
(Acts 26:28 KJV).
Several years ago, three of
my friends were killed when the small plane in which they were traveling crashed
into a house and burned. Two of the men were pastors. They had attended a
conference and were planning to be in their pulpits on Sunday morning.
In the darkness, the wing
of the plane struck the top of a tree. If only they had left before dark. If
only they had been a few feet higher. If only they had missed the house. Many of
the tragedies of life are footnoted by laments of "if only" or
"almost."
I'm convinced that many
people who are lost, were almost saved. They were almost persuaded. They didn't
miss entering the kingdom by much, but they missed it
nonetheless.
"Almost" reflects missed
opportunities, wasted time, procrastination and rationalization. There is no
future in "almost." That is why the key word of the Bible is "now." Today is the
day of salvation. A better time never comes. Excuses become habitual, life goes
by, and people never take the crucial step.
Don't let ALMOST be the story of your life!
