For you did
not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear,
but you
received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry,
“Abba,
Father” (Romans 8:15).
FEAR NO
MORE
THOSE OF US WHO are people-pleasers, myself
included, have a difficult time being who we are without constantly seeking for
someone to say we’re alright. For us, and maybe for most, settled peace within
is a challenge because it requires faith without sight. If someone tells me I’ve
done well, then I am well. The problem comes when there isn’t anyone around to
fill that role. This dilemma is a result of fear.
God releases us from fear by giving
us His Holy Spirit. That promise, however, does not mean the temptation to fear
will no longer trouble us. The answer is resting in the fact that we are God’s
sons and daughters. We are His own children, joint-heirs with His Son Jesus
Christ, not by our merit but by His love and forgiveness. God is not a
tyrannical taskmaster, impossible to please. He is a loving, doting, caring,
nurturing Father who adores His children. His Spirit within us allows us to call
God “Father.” Our Father! My Father! The power of fear is broken in Jesus
Christ. The Holy Spirit continues to keep us free by stirring within us a desire
to love our Heavenly Father. God’s response is to continually pour out His love
on us. We can’t lose.

What pleases God about you is just
you. Let Him be your freedom from fear
