When I was a
boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly
stand to have
the old man around. But when I got to be twenty one, I
was
astonished at
how much the old man had learned!

PRIVILEGE
Someone wrote, “He can climb the
highest mountain, or swim the biggest ocean. He can fly the fastest plane, and
fight the strongest tiger. But most of the time he just carries out the garbage.
He’s my father.” Being a dad is a hard job. Some of the most important memories
that shape our lives today were created by interacting with or watching our
fathers. Wow! That’s a real burden for us dads to carry. Being a dad is a tough
job, but it’s one that we want, and we really do want to be the best dads we can
be. We don’t always get it right, but we keep trying. We want to do our best for
our kids’ sake. Someday they’ll thank us for being their dad. In the meantime we
want them to know that we are grateful for the privilege of being their fathers.
Imperfect? Yes! But we love our children, and that’s what matters most.
Live
It!
If your dad is still alive, write a note of gratitude to him. If you are a dad, tell your kids how much you love them.
