Heaven is my home

HEAVEN IS MY HOME

 

I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever
(Ps. 23:6 KJV)

 

Several years ago, I visited Rapid City, South Dakota, after a flood. Hundreds of people had been left homeless. Areas that had been lined with homes were just rubble and debris. We frequently see similar scenes on television after tornadoes and hurricanes have devastated an area..

 

Our earthly homes are, at best, only temporary. Even the most solid, palatial homes are but temporary shelters. The Bible says that this world and everything in it are passing away.

 

During my years as a pastor, I lived in many different homes. I remember one move in particular. We had loaded everything we owned on a moving van for a long-distance move. The house was empty, swept and clean. Our footsteps echoed as we walked one last time through those deserted rooms that had been our home. I watched forlornly as the truck pulled away with all of our earthly possessions on it. once again I was smitten with that awful feeling of homesickness.

 

But heaven is an eternal home. We will never have to pack the van or say good-bye. one of the church fathers said, "God has made us for himself and we cannot find rest until we find it in Him."

 

Do you ever get homesick for heaven? It doesn't pay to get too attached to earth!
