The wind of the spirit

THE WIND OF THE SPIRIT

‘The wind blows . . . but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.
So it is with everyone born of the Spirit’ (John 3:8 NIV).

When I pastored in upstate New York, we enjoyed the seasonal winds that blew down from the Adirondack Mountains. With kites in hand, our children loved to climb a beautiful hill across the street from our parsonage. High into the heavens, the kites would soar, with very little effort on our part. All we had to do was let out the string, and the wind would do the work. The kites were limited only by the amount of string we released to the pull of the wind..

In order to fly, a kite must be well constructed — the tail must be the right length and there must be plenty of string to insure adequate altitude. There is a parallel here for the Christian. We cannot live a holy life on our own any more than we can fly a kite by blowing on it. The human side must be aligned according to God’s Word.

The wind of God's Spirit made the dry bones of Ezekiel's vision become a mighty army. The wind of the Spirit blew into the Upper Room and propelled the infant church into evangelizing the world.

Let His Spirit be the wind under your wings!

Life response: I will give the Holy Spirit enough "string" and not hinder Him.
