God is with us

GOD IS WITH US

 

The Lord stood at my side and gave me strength. (2 Timothy 4:17a)

 

THIS PAST YEAR, MY YOUNGER BROTHER and I have been involved in some major home improvement projects. He is the expert and I am the novice. Through his tutelage, I have learned how to do many different and new things. Some I am comfortable with, but others present a challenge. When faced with extreme difficulty, I draw strength from the master craftsman, knowing that I can call on his help anytime. There is security in knowing he is there.

 

In our Scripture passage today, Paul is citing personal experience to his young protégé Timothy. He relates his disappointment in the lack of support from people on whom he had depended. But praise God; even during those times, he reminds us that the Lord himself was always there to give him strength.

 

Do you ever experience loneliness, discouragement, or disappointment because people let you down? Does it appear that your friends or family have betrayed or abandoned you? It is during those times that we must lean on God more heavily. Take comfort in His promise, The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31:8).
