SACRIFICIAL GIVING
Give and it shall be given unto you . . . (Luke 6:38 KJV).
Many people have perverted the truth of this verse and made it a blank check for all of their selfish desires. Empty promises have been made regarding the prosperity of the saints, saying God's blessing is their right.
One of the sad commentaries of this age is the fact that, for the past few years, people have spent ten times more for luxuries and nonessentials than for all charitable and religious purposes combined.
Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).
In a church I pastored, one lady cleaned other people's houses for a living. She lived very simply in a humble home and walked all over town to do her work. Her clothing was not fashionable or stylish. She had very little of this world's goods. But she seldom missed an opportunity to contribute to the church’s offerings. By the end of the year, she had given more money than many of the other members who were quite well-to-do. In God's sight she gave far more because, like the widow in the Bible, she gave out of her need.
I have found over and over again that the real work of building the
Life response: I will make it a practice to do more "giving" than "getting."
