오늘의 묵상 (눅9:51~56, 10:30~37)

 

 

9:51. 예수님께서 하늘로 올라가실 때가 가까워 오자, 예수님께서는 예루살렘에 올라가기로 하셨습니다.

 

52. 예수님께서 사람들을 미리 보냈습니다. 그들은 가서, 예수님을 모실 준비를 하려고 어떤 사마리아 마을로 들어갔습니다.

 

53. 그런데 마을 사람들이 예수님께서 예루살렘을 향하여 가시는 것을 반기지 않았습니다.

 

54. 이것을 보고 예수님의 제자인 야고보와 요한이 말했습니다. "불이 하늘에서 내려와 이 사람들을 모두 태워 버리라고 하면 어떻겠습니까?"

 

55. 그러나 예수님께서 그들을 꾸짖으셨습니다.

 

56. 그리고 다른 마을로 가셨습니다.

 

 

10:30. 예수님께서 대답하셨습니다. "어떤 사람이 예루살렘에서 여리고로 내려가고 있었다. 그런데 도중에 강도를 만났다. 강도들은 이 사람의 옷을 벗기고 때려서 거의 죽은 채로 버려 두고 갔다.

 

31. 마침 한 제사장이 그 길을 내려가다가 그 사람을 보고는 길 반대편으로 피해서 지나갔다.

 

32. 어떤 레위인도 그 곳에 와서 그 사람을 보고는 길 반대편으로 피해서 지나갔다.

 

33. 이번에는 어떤 사마리아 사람이 그 길을 여행하다가 그가 있는 곳에 이르렀다. 사마리아 사람이 그를 보고 불쌍하게 여겼다.

 

34. 그래서 그사람에게도 가서 그의 상처에 올리브 기름과 포도주를 붓고 붕대로 감쌌다. 그리고 그를 자기의 짐승에 태우고 여관으로 데리고 가서 그를 정성껏 보살펴 주었다.

 

35. 다음 날, 그는 은화 두 개를 여관 주인에게 주면서 말했다. '이 사람을 잘 보살펴 주세요. 만일 돈이 더 들면 내가 돌아올 때 갚겠습니다.'

 

36. 너는 이 세 사람들 중에 누가 강도 만난자의 이웃이라고 생각하느냐?"

 

37. 율법학자가 대답했습니다. "그에게 자비를 베풀어 준 사람입니다." 그러자 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하셨습니다. "가서 똑같이 하여라!"

 

 

 

 

JONAH'S TICKETS

 

 

Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them? (Luke 9:54)

 

He had a ringside seat to what promised to be the greatest destructive act of his generation. This was going to be right up there with the scorching desolation of  Sodom and Gomorrah, on par with the annihilating floodwaters seen by Noah. With his eyes fastened on the immense city below, he sat on the brow of a nearby hill and waited for God's wrath to be poured out.

 

If he could have ordered popcorn and a frankfurter, it may have appeared that he was at a ball game. His cardboard sign read “Down with Nineveh” and the T-shirt on his chest displayed a large, bright picture of a fiery comet streaking down from the heavens, with the caption “Blast 'em all.” Jonah was ready to watch some wicked people get what was coming to them.

 

The fireballs never came. The people within the city had realized their sin and had humbled their hearts. God joyfully relented and showered the city with mercy instead of destruction. I'm glad. Jonah was not. He was furious that his life had been turned upside down to warn of a divine strike that never came. I'm still glad. I'm glad that we have a God who loves to show mercy. For looking at where my own heart has been, I need it.
