The confidence in making a friend

 

오늘의 묵상 (시119:57~64)

 

 

57. 여호와여, 주는 나의 몫입니다. 내가 주의 말씀에 순종하기로 약속하였습니다.

 

58. 내가 나의 마음을 다해 주의 얼굴을 바라보았습니다. 주의 약속에 따라 내게 은혜를 베풀어 주소서.

 

59. 내가 나의 길을 깊이 생각해 봤습니다. 그리고 나의 발걸음을 주의 법규들을 향해 돌렸습니다.

 

60. 나는 지체하지 않고 서둘러 주의 명령들을 지킬 것입니다.

 

61. 비록 악한 자들이 나를 줄로 묶을지라도, 나는 주의 법을 잊지 않을 것입니다.

 

62. 한밤중에 내가 일어나 주께 감사드립니다. 주의 의로운 규례들에 대해 감사드립니다.

 

63. 나는 주를 두려워하는 모든 사람들의 친구입니다. 주의 교훈들을 따르는 모든 사람들의 친구입니다.

 

64. 여호와여, 땅이 주의 사랑으로 가득 차 있습니다. 내게 주의 법령들을 가르쳐 주소서.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

THE CONFIDENCE IN MAKING A FRIEND

 

 

I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts. (Ps. 119:63)

 

WHEN A CHRISTIAN TRAVELS the world, or even travels down the street to his or her local church, there is a special opportunity to worship with a ready-found community of fellow God-lovers. There should be no greater confidence than visiting Christ-worshipping churches and making friends with those who have chosen to identify with Jesus.

 

Many times, our struggles with intimacy in a social setting are unnecessary, and stem from fear and insecurity founded in our own inadequacies. While it is true that we are unable to live without sin or bring our own salvation, we are never unloved by God or unworthy of another person. According to Dietrich Bonhoeffer, “If you want to be fearless, do good.” And we should never let our fear, composed of past insult and injury, stop us from a sustained effort to do good by loving others as we love ourselves.

 

If we let God's perfect love cast out fear in our lives by purposefully seeking a warm extended conversation and adding time into our schedules for a smile and a break from our pursuits, we rise to the psalmist's challenge to make ourselves friends with every believer and know them enough to together follow God's precepts.
