The Crew Chief

시편 35:24-28 (쉬운성경, NASB)

Judge me, O LORD my God, according to Your righteousness, And do not let them rejoice over me.

Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha, our desire!" Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up!"

Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice at mhy distress; Let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me.

Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant."

And my tongue shall declare Your righteousness And Your Praise all day long.

THE SUMMER BEFORE I entered college, I worked as the chief of a corn de-tasseling crew. That means I supervised teenagers while they pulled the yellow flowers out of the tops of cornstalks. This is difficult work, yet I enforced the rules and expected good work from my crew. If I saw too many tassels left in a cornrow, I made the person responsible for that row go back and pull out what was missed. The kids on my crews disliked me for this, and spread nasty rumors about me. I got quite a reputation. Whenever I got a new teenager on my crew, he or she usually disliked me as soon as I said my name. That was difficult to endure, but with God's help, I did and never changed my expectations. It is easy to get discouraged, even angry, when we are ridiculed for doing what is right. Righteous indignation swells within us, and often leading to despair. But God promises to deliver us in due time if we remain dedicated to doing what is right, what He has called us to do. once our naysayers see their accusations are not true, they will look like fools and stop. It may not happen when and where we want it to, but we can trust that in God's timing, it will happen.

Continue to do the right thing.
