A Legacy of Faith

 오늘의 말씀

 

디모데후서 1:6-10 (쉬운성경, NASB)

 

6. 내가 왜 하나님께서 그대에게 주신 은사를 사용하라고 말하는지 아시겠습니까? 하나님께서는 내가 그대에게 손을 얹고 기도할 때 은사를 주셨습니다. 작은 불꽃이 큰 불을 일으키듯 그대가 받은 은사를 자라게 하십시오.

For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

 

7. 하나님께서는 우리에게 두려워하는 마음을 주신 것이 아니라 능력과 사랑과 절제하는 마음을 주셨습니다. 

For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

 

8. 그러므로 우리 주 예수님을 증거하는 것을 부끄러워하지 마십시오. 또한 주님을 위해 감옥에 갇힌 나에 대해서도 부끄러워하지 말기 바랍니다. 오히려 복음을 위해 함께 고난을 받으십시오. 하나님께서 이 모든 것을 할 수 있는 능력을 주실 것입니다. 

 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,     

 

9. 하나님께서는 우리를 구원해 주시고 그분의 거룩한 백성으로 삼으셨습니다. 이것은 우리가 무언가 큰 일을 해서가 아니라, 그분이 원하셔서 그분의 은혜로 된 것입니다. 그 은혜는 세상이 시작되기 전에 예수 그리스도를 통해 우리에게 이미 주어졌습니다. 

 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

 

10. 그리고 우리 구주 예수 그리스도가 오시고 나서야 비로소 우리에게 보여졌습니다. 예수님께서는 죽음의 권세를 깨뜨리시고, 복음을 통해 영원한 생명의 길을 보여 주셨습니다. 

 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

 

 

 

 MY MOTHER'S LAST hospital stay took place when she was ninety-one years old. During her stay, Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life lay on her nightstand. Her zest for life as well as her godly influence were represented in this title; her life was truly driven by her passion to live for God. Family and friends of all ages came to sit on her bed to reminisce, encourage, and share their love. Life's difficulties had tested her faith, but she continued to weave the last threads of her legacy, a sincere faith, soon to be left behind. Mom's life purpose was to love God, serve others, and live prepared for heaven. During the final storm she endured death, the room filled with children and spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. We walked her to the gates of heaven singing songs of victory. Then, in hushed tones, we recited The Lord's Prayer. We knew that "thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever." She was with Jesus. Amen. She taught us how to live, and she showed us how to die, by sincere faith. This legacy was our rich inheritance "that can never perish, spoil or fade" (1 Pet. 1:4). We lay claim to it through sincere faith and the saving power of Jesus Christ.
