But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them;
and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were unfastened.
When the jailer awoke and saw the prison doors opened, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all hear!"
And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas,
and after he brought them out, he siad, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
And they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house.
And he took them that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his household.
And he brought them into his house and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, having believed in God with his whole household.
MY BROTHER, JOHN, and his wife, Becky, were the first believers in our family. They regularly prayed for all of our extended family to receive the Lord. They watched for open doors to share their faith with loved ones. During holiday dinners, they'd testify of the things God was doing in their lives. Not only were they talking about Jesus, but their lives were changing for the better as well. one by one, different family members started following the Lord. Amazingly, nearly all of my family members are believers now and most of them have become leaders in their churches. Best of all, this legacy of faith has been carried into the next generation as nearly all of the children are followers too. We are praying for a couple of stragglers, but we believe they will soon follow Christ! If you are praying for your family to follow Jesus, never give up on them. Ask God to draw your loved ones closer to Him and to reveal himself to them. God has many ways of reaching people and it's often through hard situations that people recognize their need for the Lord. Family members know each other better than anyone because of years of shared experiences and living under the same roof. Never underestimate your influence on your family. Serve as an example by being quick to love and be forgiving of their shortcomings.
