I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
God has not rejected His people whom He forknew Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Iarael?.
"Lord, THEY HAVE KILLED YOUR PROPHETS, THEY HAVE TORN DOWN YOUR ALTARS, AND I ALONE AM LEFT, AND THEY ARE SEEKING MY LIFE."
But what is the divine response to him? "I HAVE KEPT FOR MYSELF SEVEN THOUSAND MEN WHO HAVE NOT BOWED THE KNEE TO BAAL."
In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God's gracious choice.
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.
SCOTT ADAMS KNOWS the frustration of futility. The creator of the Dilbert comic strip survived seventeen years of cubicle-confined employment before cartooning success allowed him to leave the arbitrary bosses, senseless meetings, and corporate chaos he so accurately parodies. "I don't think I'll ever forget what it feels like to sit in a cubicle," Adams told the Chicago Tribune, "and realize you've been there for eight hours . . . and everything you did today will become unimportant in the next reorganization." No doubt you've experienced that same perception of uselessness. You want your life to matter on the job, in your relationships, as a believer in Christ. Yet at times, life can seem fruitless. That's the way Elijah felt: "I am the only one left," he claimed. But the Lord reminded Elijah that He had preserved a faithful remnant loyal to Him. This cadre of true believers had been specially selected by God not on the basis of what they did for Him, but because of who they were through Him. As children of God, we are a part of that remnant, too, and it's a fact that gives us great hope! By His grace, God has chosen us to serve Him. Everything we do has eternal significance. Let the reality of who you are through Him become your antidote against frustration.
