As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grave that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,
seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things into which angels long to look.
SALVATION WAS THE INCREDIBLE reality preached by those sent by the Holy Spirit to the believers who received this letter from Peter. Yet we discover here that it is not just human beings who find salvation amazing. Angels find God's grace so compelling they long "to look into" it. This intense desire for discovery that might be better translated "to stoop and look intently." Why is that? Because angels, as marvelous as they are, have no idea what it is like to live in complete isolation from God or to be miraculously transformed through the work of Jesus' sacrifice. Salvation is a mystery to them, one which they are eager to learn more about. As Christians, though, we've experienced firsthand the astonishing, regenerative love God has for us. But does that incredible reality really satisfy our longing? Amid the world-wearying pace of life, perhaps salvation is something you've taken for granted. Maybe it has even become blasé. If so, take a moment today to thankfully consider the depths Christ's love has rescued you from and recommit yourself to the plan He has for you. As you renew your appreciation for your amazing salvation, it'll change your outlook, and maybe even leave an angel or two a little jealous.
