잠언 1:5-7 (쉬운성경, NASB)
5. 지혜로운 사람은 듣고 학식을 더할 것이며, 지각 있는 자는 모략을 얻을 것이다.
A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
6. 이로써 잠언과 비유, 지혜자의 가르침, 그리고 오묘한 일들을 깨닫게 될 것이다.
To understand a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their riddles.
7. 여호와를 경외하는 것이 지식의 시작이지만, 어리석은 자들은 지혜와 교훈을 멸시한다.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instrucion.
WHEN I WAS A CHILD, my father was gentle, kind, and understanding. I never quaked in fear, worried he would suddenly turn on me or discipline me for no apparent reason. However, I knew the consequences of disobeying him. A spanking was the usual result, and that wasn't any fun. Because I knew Dad walked softly but carried a big yardstick (the implement of our discipline), I respected and, in another sense, feared him. That is what fear of the Lord is all about. It involves reverence, respect, even awe, as well as fear and trepidation when we disobey Him. A Christian with a healthy fear of the Lord will not only love, honor, and worship God, but will quake with terror when he or she deliberately crosses certain lines. God will not lethally hurt us, but the Bible tells us over and over that He disciplines those He loves. What is the product of this fear of God? It's knowledge of Him, of the truth, of the way the world works, of deep things only known to those who truly love and respect God. When we fear the Lord, we gain knowledge that protects us, keeps us at peace, and enables us to lead healthy, happy lives. Are you growing, learning, and developing in your spiritual life? If not, ask God to develop within you a biblical, appropriate fear of Him.
