ARE YOU COUNTING YOUR
TROPHIES?
We must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive what is due him for the
things done while in the body . . .(2 Cor. 5:10 NIV).
Several years ago, I heard
former Senator Harold Hughes explain in a speech why he was giving up a
distinguished career. Living an empty life that was lived only for the praise of
men, he told of going into the room that contained all of his trophies,
memorials, awards and plaques — the recognition given him by men.
"It all seemed so hollow
and empty. I felt like taking them all and making a big bonfire of it." They
were meaningless.
Then he discovered the real
meaning of a life lived for Jesus Christ and decided to devote his full time and
attention to the ministry of prayer fellowships. Accomplishment is not worldly
recognition. The greatest rewards come from life lived for
eternity.
Albert Einstein said, "Try
not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value." The
only way to become a person of value is to become a child of the
King.
Abel, one of earth’s
earliest inhabitants, did not perform great achievements. But he was pleasing to
God and his name is still remembered for that. "He being dead yet speaketh"
(Heb. 11:4 KJV).
Life response: What will I be remembered for?
