A LION IS LURKING

 

Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking

 for someoneto devour. (1 Peter 5:8b)

 

I HAVE A FASCINATION WITH TELEVISED animal programs and especially watching the big cats of Africa. Nowhere is the picture of the hunter and the hunted more dramatic than in the great Serengeti region. Over a million wildebeest migrate annually through a minefield of predators. The migration instinct compels them forward even though they are aware of lurking danger. Their strongest defense is to stay within the confines of the herd. If one happens to stray behind, the lion crouched in the tall African grass begins to salivate. With sharp claws and stabbing teeth, he stealthily makes the kill.

 

Can we imagine Satan as a lion, watching and waiting until we are the most vulnerable? When our lives become so busy that God is crowded out, we are prime targets of Satan. It should be no surprise that we are at our weakest when we haven¹t been spending time alone with God. Alone and vulnerable,

 

Satan sneaks up on us and plans our destruction. Many a fallen Christian has felt his sudden attack as he or she succumbed to temptation. But God has an escape route for us. The closer we are to Him, the safer we are. Don’t be guilty of straying away from His protection.
