DEAD SEA OR LIVING WATER?

by 복음과삶 2005. 7. 29.

DEAD SEA OR LIVING WATER?

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water
will flow from within him’ (John 7:38 NIV).

When we were in Jerusalem for a conference, we took a trip down to the Dead Sea. Someone suggested that we dip our finger in the water and put a drop on our tongue. (I knew better because I had done it before.) It is extremely salty and bitter. only one person was swimming in the water at the time, a tourist curious about the buoyancy of the dense water. The only boats allowed in the Dead Sea are military boats, which must be treated to withstand corrosion. No fish live in that water and all around is dry, barren land.

Although water pours into the Dead Sea, it has no outlet. Rich minerals rush in and are deposited, but go nowhere after that.

That is the picture of the empty lives of many people. Rich blessings from God flow into their lives. They have health, prosperity, ability and talent. But all around them is dryness. Their lives are barren, unable to flow out to bless the world that touches them from day to day.

Are you asking: Why am I so empty? It may be because you are so full of yourself, no room is left for the satisfying, refreshing water of life which only God can give.

Life response: Is my life a dead sea or a flowing well?
