BUILDING on GOD’S FOUNDATION
If any man builds on this foundation
(Jesus) using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw, his work will be
shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to
light
(1 Corinthians
3:12–13).
A MODERN PARABLE: A man who owned a construction company had to go out of
town on business. He left his son in charge. “This is a very important house. It
must be finished by the time I return. Use the best materials and spare no
expense. Build it as if you were building it for yourself.” The son thought to
himself, “I can save a lot of money with some shortcuts. The house will be
ready, and I will be richer.” So he used the least expensive material and the
least amount of material. He also hired cheap labor. When the father returned,
the house was finished. on the outside it looked good, but there were many
flaws. Still, the son was proud as he took the father to the job site. When they
arrived, the father walked through the house and was disappointed. He looked
sadly at his son. Then the father reached out and gave the keys to the house to
his son. “Happy Anniversary,” the father said, and dropped his head and walked
out.
Whether we use our best efforts, or try to get
by on shortcuts, when the Lord returns everything will come into the light. He
will reward us according to our deeds. Let’s build wisely.
