 RECENTLY, I WAS WATCHING PBS’s “The Antiques Road Show” on television when I heard something interesting. Two pieces were being viewed by an auction house representative. The pieces were very similar—five-drawer style dressers; however, one of the dressers was in impeccable condition while the other, although sturdy and still beautiful, was a bit aged and worn.

           

 At the end of the segment, as the auctioneer was giving the owner of the pieces an estimate on what each of them was worth, I was shocked to find that the piece which appeared to be in mint condition was estimated to be worth almost $10,000 less than the worn dresser. Apparently, according to the expert, the worn piece was unchanged—in the exact state in which it was most likely built.

The nicer looking piece had obviously been updated and fixed-up for show and had therefore, lost value.

           

Interestingly, we are reminded in this passage from Hebrews that God created His son, Jesus, to be unchanging—the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Consequently, we benefit from His unchanging nature in that we can rest assured that the amazing grace and mercy we are offered through Jesus today will be available to us tomorrow as well. There is great beauty and value in the unchanging nature of Christ Jesus.
