He came to save sinners

by 복음과삶 2005. 10. 28.

HE CAME TO SAVE SINNERS

All the people saw this and began to mutter, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a "sinner'
(Luke 19:7 NIV).

When the Methodist circuit-riding preachers traveled across America in pioneer days, they met with derision and opposition in many places. Sometimes, no one would rent them a building or hall in which to hold their meetings. Frequently the preachers would target their message and their prayers toward the worst and hardest sinner in town — the owner of the saloon or the leading gambler, the bootlegger or town drunkard. By winning the most notorious among them to their cause, these evangelists often saw revivals spread throughout the area until entire communities were converted. Today, there is a Methodist church on nearly every crossroads and in every town in America.

When Jesus called Zacchaeus out of the sycamore tree, He was welcomed into the home of one of the richest and best-known men in Jericho. But Zacchaeus needed Christ. Willing to make restitution and to obey God, he became a sincere follower. The up-and-out need God as much as the down-and-out!

What sinners are you "targeting" for the Lord?

Life response: I will introduce the needy in spirit to the one who meets every need, the Lord Jesus Christ.
