Commitment

COMMITMENT

Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?’
(Luke 2:49 NKJV).

Wanting to talk, a young college student once came to my office. He slouched down in a chair, and with tears in his eyes said, "Wow! My whole life is falling apart."

"What's wrong?" I asked.

He said, "I thought I knew what I wanted to do with my life and what I wanted to become. Now I'm not sure anymore, and everything is falling apart on me."

As long as he had a commitment, he was all right; but without it, he was in conflict and had no peace.

Jesus had such peace early in His life. As a boy of twelve, He was in the Temple discussing questions with the teachers of the law. When His mother and Joseph found Him and scolded Him for worrying them, He said, "Don't you know I must be about my Father's business?"

After He was involved in His ministry, He said, "I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day" (John 9:4 KJV). And when His earthly life was ending, He could look up to the Heavenly Father and say, "It is finished" (19:30). He knew the calling of God for His life and He was committed to doing it.

The same is true for every human being. Commitment to God's business brings peace.

Life response: I will put my Father’s business first.
