Playing with diamonds

by 복음과삶 2005. 12. 17.

PLAYING WITH DIAMONDS

[King Herod] asked them where the Christ was to be born. ‘In Bethlehem in Judea,’ they replied, ‘for this is what the prophet has written’ (Matt. 2:4-5 NIV).

A missionary who served in a diamond mining area, saw a group of boys playing marbles. As he got closer, he saw that they were playing marbles with diamonds!

When the wise men came to Jerusalem in search of the newborn King, King Herod asked the Jewish leaders where Christ was to be born. Aware of what the prophets had foretold, these Jewish leaders had the diamonds of the Old Testament writings. Yet they "played marbles" with these wonderful prophecies.

Did any of them go to Bethlehem to search for the King? The wise men had told them about the star. But even though they were only a few miles from Bethlehem, they didn't bother to try to find the Messiah.

How often are those who have the most truth, the most light, the least likely to follow it. Those who hear the Word frequently often become insensitive to it.

We have the diamonds of the Word of God. Are we playing marbles with them? Or are we hiding His riches in our hearts and minds?

Life response: "Holy Spirit, guide me in the ‘mining’ of Your Word. Show me the ‘diamonds of truth.’"
