WHO IS on YOUR GIFT
LIST?
When they had opened their
treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold,
and frankincense, and myrrh"
(Matt. 2:11 KJV).
The wise men’s gift-giving
is a pattern for our own. The first Christmas presents were given to Jesus; the
wise men did not have a gift exchange among themselves. While there is nothing
wrong with exchanging gifts with those we love, it would be a greater blessing
if we concerned ourselves more with giving to the Lord than to each
other.
The first and best gift, of
course, was God's gift, His only Son, our Savior. And yet, Christmas may be the
only birthday party at which the guest of honor is ignored, while the invited
guests give presents to each other! When your Christmas bills come due, take a
moment and add up the total cost. How much did you spend on presents, party
items, special meals and all the rest? Compare that sum with what you gave
to the Lord.
How do we give to
the Lord? Jesus tells us that by giving to the needy, the hungry, the thirsty,
the prisoners and the strangers, we are giving to Him. What would happen if all
Christians gave Christmas gifts only to those who could never repay
them?
Remember, when the wise men
gave, they worshipped!
Life response: "Heavenly Father, give me ‘sense’ in spending my Christmas ‘dollars.’"
