KNOWING
ABOUT CHRISTMAS
For unto you is born
this day . . . a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11
KJV).
Millions of people know
about Christmas, but do they know what Christmas is about? Many children think
Christmas is about presents, toys and treats, about decorating the tree and
seeing Santa, making lists and hanging stockings. It's about getting everything
you want, and then finding out what you want isn't all that
satisfying.
Most parents think they
know what Christmas is about. It's spending money you don’t have, running all
over town to find the most popular toy, worrying over what to get the
"hard-to-buy-for" people, and dreading the bills that come
later.
I noticed several display
ads in a leading magazine: "What greater treasure of Christmas could you give
than sheets and pillowcases?" said one. Another read, "Crowning gift of all, our
lovebird scarf of Russian sable, just $9000." And this one, "Christmas
everywhere! And in
Do we really know what
Christmas is about, or do we just know about Christmas? When all the celebrating
is over, one fact stands above it all — unto you is born a Savior. If you
don't know Him, you do not know the real meaning of
Christmas.
Life response: I will seek the Christ of Christmas above the celebration of Christmas.
