After christmas, What?

AFTER CHRISTMAS, WHAT?

 

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven . . . The shepherds returned . . . (Luke 2:15, 20 NIV).

 

After the angels had gone . . . the shepherds returned. I imagine they never got over that experience. How many times do you suppose their children and grandchildren heard them tell and retell the story of that incredible night? I can imagine them as old men, with their grandchildren pleading at their feet, "Grandpa, tell us again about that night the angels sang."

 

But the shepherds could not stay in the light of that glory forever. What happened when the angels left and the shepherds returned?

 

Christmas comes and goes. The parties end. The lights and ornaments are packed away. What then?

 

It is time then to think of the prospects and the hope Christmas gives us. We have the prospect of a transformed life made possible by the coming of the Savior. We have the hope of a better country — that country, in fact, to which the angels returned.

 

Christmas means hope for lost humanity and peace made possible by the coming of the Prince of Peace. The darkness of this present evil world is extinguished by the coming of the Light of the world.

 

Yes, the holiday may be over for another year, but the celebration must continue!
