MAKE TODAY COUNT
The path of the righteous is like
the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter
till the full light of day
(Prov. 4:18 NIV)
In a book on time
management, I read a suggestion that we could make better use of our time if we
kept track of how we spent it. I began to take a notebook with me everywhere.
Every fifteen minutes throughout the day I would jot down what I did during that
segment of my life.
When I saw the record of my
time in black and white, I was amazed at how much of it was wasted — time spent
doing nothing, or at least nothing of eternal
significance.
I decided that life is too
short to waste. It is too short for me to remember insults and carry grudges.
Too short to allow the sins and blunders of the past to put a cloud over today's
usefulness. Too short to miss the joy of family and friends while I'm busy
pursuing a career. Too short to give the devil part of today while I reserve
only a portion of tomorrow for God.
We could do more with our lives if we only recognized how brief they are. Evangeline Booth of the Salvation Army said, "It is not how many years we live, but what we do with them that counts." How swiftly time passes! What we are going to do, we had better be doing. Don't put off until tomorrow what you should be doing today.
Life response: I will set spiritual, social, and financial priorities in keeping with the principles of God's Word.
