LIFE'S UNCERTAINTY
. . . as a bird hasteth to the snare
. . . . (Prov. 7:23 KJV)
Many people in eternity
today were planning their future just yesterday. We have no promise of
tomorrow.
A person with a terminal
illness was asked how he could be so cheerful when he knew he was going to die.
He responded, "We are all terminal. I am just more aware of it than
most."
Even after the doctor gives
his opinion as to how long you have to live, tomorrow is uncertain. I have a
close friend whose mother was told many years ago she would not live very long.
But she has outlived three or four of the doctors who predicted her death. on
the other hand, I knew a man who went for a medical check-up and was given a
clean bill of health. on the way out of the doctor's office, he suffered a heart
attack and died.
It is not morbid and
depressing to think about how short life is on this earth. At least it should
not be so for a Christian. For this world is not our home. Perhaps every
Christian should live each day as though it is his last. That means keeping
short accounts and being ready to meet the Lord. What a joyful and victorious
way to live!
Life response... I will live this day as if it were my last.
